JIRI Trnka, the man and his job
Jiri Trnka varied artist in the Czechoslovakia of before the Velvet Revolution and Prague Spring. He started his career as a puppeteer and soon after he became a draughtsman and a painter. When he was asked to take over the artistic leadership of the Prague studio of animationfilms, he agreed. That was in 1945, the beginning of Trnka’s successful career as a filmmaker. His star raises fast in the sixties: Havel wrote his theaterplays, Hrabel his novels and Trnka also internationally succeeded. Until his last film The Hand, which was forbidden by the Government……An artistlife in the sixties during communism domination. Balancing for worth…and morality !
